County Wicklow LTC Open Championships
The County Wicklow Open Championship has been run with immense pride since 1911. Through the years we’ve had many wonderful Champions such as the famous George Patrick Hughes (1928 & 1929), a spectacular doubles player, who was Wimbledon doubles finalist in 1931 with Fred Perry and finally won the title with C.R.D. Tuckey in 1936. G.P. Hughes also won 3 Davis cup titles, 12 times champion Ms Hilda Wallis, a multiple Irish Champion who also played in Wimbledon and more recently Conor Niland, who has a victory over Federer (albeit at the age of 14), Gina Niland and Yvonne Doyle.
Open Week as its called by our members is the social highlight of the year, many of our members enter the competitions, however the main focus is the social aspect of the week. The club is packed all week, the kitchen serves up fantastic food and the bar in always open. The quality of the tennis means spectators are treated to a level of tennis they don’t normally see up close.
The event is run in July every year and is one you should not miss.
Many thanks to our 2024 CWLTC Senior Open Week sponsors.
