CWLTC has an extremely proud history of competitive tennis and have won many league pennants throughout the years. Each year we enter a number of teams in all of the Dublin Lawn Tennis Council (DLTC) Inter Club league events and in the Leinster Regional Leagues that started in 2022.
In addition to leagues, there are other inter club competitions that take place during the year, such as the Easter Cup for men, Charity Leagues for ladies, and the Blue & Gold mixed doubles competition.
DLTC leagues are broken down into different Classes and Leinster Regional leagues are broken down into different Divisions. Leinster Regional Leagues are open to all Clubs within Leinster outside of Dublin.
The number of teams the Club enters into each league competition depends on the number of players who express their interest in playing by signing up on Smart Club. A range of factors are considered when selecting teams including previous league campaigns, internal competitions and challenge match results and the Tennis Committee endeavours to be as transparent and fair as possible when selecting teams.
The selection process starts with the 1st team, then 2nd, 3rd and so forth. As a Club we need to ensure that the standard of players is consistent with the Class that they will be playing in.
For example, there are 6 separate classes in a league and CWLTC have teams in Classes 2, 3 & 4. If we wish to enter a 4th team they will automatically be placed in the lowest Class, in this case Class 6. However, we will still need to fill the teams in Classes 2, 3 & 4 before we fill our new Class 6 team. It is not possible to enter a team in the lowest class in place of a team in a higher class.
